1st prize for the design and final study of the headquarters office building for the cooperative bank of Cyprus, in the city of Nicosia
The building will house the main administration offices of the cooperative Central Bank in Nicosia along with the basic store of the city and various spaces of public use, such as a conference centre and a cafeteria. The design proposal for the building can be summed up as the configuration of continuous "pulsating" zones that do not just set up the skin of the building, but also underline a flowing system in accordance with the requirements for infinite data and information flow, which characterises the contemporary banking system. The need for a high-quality work environment, as well as the need of a local or global range landmark, led to a building that forms the urban and cultural space of the area. Operating as a huge sponge, the mass of the building absorbs its surroundings, either by allowing the external contours to reduce horizontally or with the perforation of the building, adjusting the external environmental conditions and enhancing the green behaviour of the building. This process of erosion of the buildings mass by the sunlight and the atmosphere describes in the best way the environmental perspective of the proposed solution, as well as the interactive association with the urban and the natural landscape.
