GREEK-FRENCH SCHOOL IN ATHENS

3rd prize for the reconstructio of the Greek-French school "Eugene Delacroix" in Athens, Greece

The main intention of the study is to develop the object using the terms of landscape design. In order to convert the building configuration into the landscape, the proposal uses an 'intermediate' element, which can be referential to both the terrain, as well as to the building structure. The main element used was a folding structure which covers the of buildings, in correspondence with the forms of the natural relief and in continuation with them. The group of buildings proposed, is formed as a structured limit between the constructed and the natural. The landscape, the folding structure and the limit, are supplemented by the terms of the continuity or flow, which are important in order to ensure the operational sequence between the individual parts of the composition. The idea of continuity and flow, is reinforced by the form of the folding roof, which apart from the visualization of flow, is associated with the foliage of trees, with high planting at the level of natural soil or with lower plantings at higher levels. This achieves the visual and kinetic transfer from ground level to the level of the roof, fulfilling the initial promise for the treatment of buildings as elements of the landscape.
