Close Encaved Stone Villa in Antiparos
This project involves an encaved stone villa in Antiparos, located on a steep slope on the island. Oriented towards the East, the plot offers stunning views of Paros and nearby Cycladic islands. The main goal of the design is to seamlessly integrate the building into the landscape. By combining varied volumes and subterranean elements, the design embraces the rocky topography. As a result, these architectural fragments create a gentle intervention, highlighting the transformation of the terrain.
Moreover, the design focuses on the coexistence of multiple functions within the complex. For example, an open-air corridor effectively separates public spaces, such as living and dining areas, from private spaces, including sleeping areas. In addition, private zones are located on the lower level, near the main private pool, ensuring both privacy and relaxation. Auxiliary spaces and purveyance use a dedicated elevator for convenient service. Furthermore, large open-air relaxation areas surround the building, offering ample space for outdoor living in a traditional Cycladic country house. The use of local materials connects the built structures with the environment. Indigenous construction techniques blend with contemporary sustainable processes. For instance, the facades feature local stone, while chestnut and wicker timber are used for lintels and pergolas, enhancing the authentic Cycladic feel.
In addition, elongated slits in the ground illuminate the interior of the subterranean spaces, creating a scenographic effect. Contiguous engravings and footpaths guide visitors to the swimming areas, emphasizing elements of transmittance and focal points. Pergolas and structural elements integrate with the environment, offering protection from the sun and strong Cycladic winds.
Ultimately, the spatial design of this Cycladic shelter maximizes the user experience within the natural landscape of Antiparos. Through the strategic use of design elements and thoughtful integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, the villa ensures a harmonious living environment amidst the island's rugged beauty. Overall, this approach respects the natural surroundings and offers a luxurious and comfortable retreat for visitors.
