This redesign project revitalizes a 1970s hotel complex located in the Kionia area near Tinos town. The complex features a central hotel building, three bungalows, and a restaurant. Its strategic location near the sea and beach makes it a standout on Tinos Island. The main architectural challenge was to unify the various buildings, constructed at different times, into a cohesive ensemble. Inspired by Cycladic architecture, the new facades incorporate linear forms and traditional dovecote elements, creating a modern and dynamic look.
Moreover, the design integrates communal spaces with enhanced sea views, functional flow, and wind protection. A striking feature is the wooden pergolas with stone walls, traversing the entire complex and supporting the whitewashed buildings. The interiors aim to deliver a modern hospitality experience, blending island culture with natural materials and colors. This harmonious dialogue between past and future results in an architectural masterpiece that respects the island's heritage while embracing a contemporary aesthetic.
By focusing on a shared design language and cohesive architectural vocabulary, the redesign highlights the unique qualities of the location. The use of traditional elements in a modern interpretation enhances the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the complex. The redesign not only improves the visual unity of the buildings but also enhances the overall guest experience by creating inviting communal spaces and comfortable interiors.
Furthermore, this project exemplifies how contemporary design can honor and integrate traditional architectural styles, resulting in a unique and appealing hotel complex. The redesigned hotel in Tinos is a testament to thoughtful architectural intervention, creating a timeless yet modern space for visitors to enjoy.
