The Liopetri Fishing Refuge in Cyprus stands as an important monument of traditional architecture and natural beauty. Consequently, our proposal aims to create a modern landscape that offers visual pleasure while informing and educating visitors. This design helps them form personal opinions about the landscape and develop a responsible attitude toward it. The interaction of different systems arises from the space's geometry and the specific functions we propose. Movement and pause areas, depending on the natural environment and various functions, form a grid of lines and points that serve as orientation markers.
We propose creating successive landscape undulations that emerge from analyzing the riverbed geometry. These formations define the riverbed and create walking paths on both sides and the quays of the fishing shelter. Additionally, a network of landscape protrusions will activate areas of interest. Walking routes from the riverbed will spread across the sloping banks, allowing visitors to discover the landscape.
The geometry and development of the activation protrusions mimic the growth of Cystoseira barbata found on the reefs in the marine area of Liopetri. Furthermore, orientation points will be created by placing markers throughout the area, adhering to an overall orientation system. These markers are placed on successive intangible axes that traverse the landscape, creating a unified reference system. This system integrates interventions around the river with those in the National Forest Park "Liopetri River." These interventions involve light constructions and landscape changes using natural elements.
Moreover, a continuous movement system will traverse the entire landscape like a thread on the branches of a tree. The routes forming this system will connect all the proposed micro-landscapes. Thus, walkers and cyclists will gain an overall perception of the landscape while moving along paths that wind through the plantings and functions.
The interaction of all these elements results in a landscape design that offers visitors a comprehensive, multifaceted, and varied experience. Besides the natural landscape, the broader intervention area includes a man-made, artificial landscape with unique significance. As a result, visitors will experience the landscape as a complete entity, with a constant alternation of movement and pause, based on the relationship between the natural and man-made elements.
