Nyx Hotel in Limassol
"Nyx" Hotel is situated in Limassol at a prominent location where the old town meets the commercial center and the beachfront. This ideal position offers both vibrant city life and stunning sea views. Firstly, the project reuses part of an existing building and transforms it into a striking addition to Limassol’s dynamic skyline. For instance, the design concept centers around maximizing the unobstructed view of the sea. An outdoor restaurant on the top floor features a swimming pool and provides a breathtaking view of the seascape.
Our proposal aims to create a landmark within the urban fabric of Limassol. To begin with, we identified the geometry of the existing ‘bare’ building and then overlaid it with a new shell. Specifically, the rooftop swimming pool and the ground-floor entrance are two key features. These elements enhance visibility and extroversion by breaking through the solid shell and revealing their functions on the facade. As a result, the prismatic shell gains a dynamic plasticity that unifies all the building’s parts into a cohesive form.
The design incorporates a prismatic shell with dynamic incisions that unify the building’s various components into a single cohesive form. The prismatic shell consists of a series of vertical thin elements arranged horizontally. These elements indicate the height of each floor, creating a human scale for the building. The vertical elements vary in thickness and density, reflecting the internal activities and creating a sense of movement. This approach gives the building a dynamic and evolving appearance.
The shell uses a metal substructure covered with cement board cladding. This material combination ensures durability and a modern aesthetic. The vertical and horizontal elements of the shell work together to produce a unified and contemporary look for the building.
In addition to the design, the "Nyx" Hotel enhances the visitor experience through its features. The rooftop restaurant and swimming pool offer a tranquil retreat with stunning sea views. Furthermore, the prismatic facade serves as a visual landmark along Limassol’s coastline. The thoughtful arrangement of spaces and materials fosters a welcoming environment for both guests and locals.
