Close Office Building in Faliro
The existing office building in Faliro, dating back to 1996, has a symmetrical shell and a monumental character. The total remodeling of the facade and interior highlights contemporary capabilities while reinterpreting the architecture of the past. The dense grid of the original glass panes gives way to impressive wide single glazing. This change maximizes permissible height and length, offering an unimpeded outward view. The redesign harmoniously blends completeness and emptiness, light and shade, creating a balanced whole of geometries and volume.
Horizontal elements like single balconies and canopies unite the sturdy parts of the existing shell. The canopy at the ground floor welcomes visitors, while the rooftop canopy forms the building’s crown. This design creates a sense of consistency and succession throughout the building. Additionally, an open-air atrium at the heart of the building serves as a “natural oasis” for the contemporary workplace. On the roof, glass parapets replace built ones, offering views of Faliro Bay amidst landscaped surroundings.
Interior partitions of the offices use plasterboard, while glass partitions organize the space without compromising the open plan. Changing the ceiling from gypsum board to mineral fiber ceiling defines interior sections while maintaining unity. This change creates an interesting perspective on the elongated space. Moreover, a raised floor installation enables flexible seating arrangements to meet the demands of a modern workplace.
The facade consists of curtain walls that reach the maximum permissible height and length, ensuring an unimpeded outward view. Tall tilting glass panels on the building’s side provide natural ventilation. Integrations with existing columns, coated with marble, use External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems. Furthermore, unified indoor and outdoor lighting with LED strips highlight key points of interest, enhancing the overall aesthetic and ensuring energy efficiency.
By implementing these changes, the redevelopment project blends the building’s historical elements with modern design and functionality. Consequently, this creates a harmonious and inspiring workspace.
