This residence in Ekali is located in a serene area surrounded by large pine trees. Our design draws inspiration from the unique arrangement of these trees on the plot. Because the large side of the plot faces north, we sought a solution to protect the interior spaces from the prevailing wind while preserving the magnificent view of Parnitha.
To achieve this, we designed a system of asymptotic walls that rise gracefully towards the north. These walls define the individual spaces and create large openings that blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior. As a result, this approach fosters a seamless connection with the surrounding natural environment. Moreover, the design extends this principle to the roof. We incorporated large horizontal surfaces that overlap to let light penetrate deeply into the building's interior while providing necessary shelter for the outdoor spaces.
Furthermore, we focused on creating a harmonious blend with the natural surroundings. The superimposed walls direct the wind upwards, effectively minimizing its impact on the outdoor areas. At the same time, these walls frame the stunning view of Parnitha, balancing protection with openness.
In addition, the large openings between the walls unify the indoor and outdoor spaces. This design choice ensures that the interior areas connect seamlessly with the natural environment outside. Similarly, the roof design uses horizontal planes to cast shade and allow natural light to enhance the comfort of the outdoor spaces.
Overall, our project represents a thoughtful integration with the landscape. By utilizing the natural features of the site, our design not only protects from the wind but also maintains an unobstructed view of Parnitha. Through these design choices, this residence in Ekali offers a harmonious living environment that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. In essence, this approach creates a unique and inviting space where nature and architecture coexist harmoniously.
