Close White Coast Resort in Milos
The project involves expanding the White Coast Resort in the Mytakas area of Milos. This expansion includes 13 new room buildings, a restaurant with a communal pool, a spa and rejuvenation building, and outdoor arrangements that support the hotel's overall operation.
The rugged terrain and orientation of the plot influence the design. Consequently, volumes are arranged to follow the natural contours and integrate with the landscape. Facing west, the complex provides optimal sea and sunset views. Furthermore, the new rooms represent an upgraded version of the existing ones, aligning with the hotel's branding.
The arrangement of volumes on the natural ground creates a unified and functional ensemble. Ground floor sections serve as semi-underground parts with green roofs, acting as solid bases for the upper structures. These upper structures reflect the unit and geometry of a Cycladic settlement. Additionally, the alternation between white and stone rooms enhances the fragmentation of volumes. It also adds variety to the complex’s skyline. Moreover, the unified volumetric design in an off-white hue is accentuated by light and shadow. Stone volumes blend into the natural landscape.
The buildings are unified through a Z-shaped path, ending at the semi-underground restaurant with extensive seating and pool areas. In addition, a small trail leads visitors to the beachfront. Elements of permeability and the alternation of full and empty spaces are intensified through scattered resting platforms and viewing points. As a result, this design enlivens the hotel’s exploration and maximizes the visitor experience in the natural landscape of Milos.
The expansion of the White Coast Resort blends modern architecture with the rugged beauty of Milos. The new room buildings, restaurant, and spa facilities enhance the resort's offerings while respecting the island's natural terrain. By integrating green roofs and using materials that harmonize with the environment, the design maintains an aesthetic unity with the existing structures. Thus, this approach preserves the beauty of the landscape and enhances the overall guest experience by providing stunning views, functional spaces, and a strong connection to the unique environment of Milos.
